Prompt action to contain the spread of ASF

Last August 31, Laoag City Mayor Michael M.Keon together with City Administrator Atty. Roxanne Lee Castro had a meeting with City Veterinarian Dr. Arturo Cabello, OIC City Agriculturist Engr. Sheila Marie Opelac and Ms. Cydelle Antonio of the Slaughterhouse to discuss updates on the status of the African Swine Fever (ASF) in the city. It was reported to Keon that several hogs allegedly died in Brgy. 62-B Navotas South without any underlying cause, and that the hog raiser butchered them and sneaked the meat out of the barangay to the nearby Brgy. 61 Cataban to be buried. The said incident was immediately reported by the barangay officials to the Laoag City Police Station, and the meat was confiscated. The City Veterinary Office took some of the internal organs and turned them over to the Provincial Veterinary Office for testing of possible ASF infection. Also present during the meeting were Deputy Chief of Police PMaj Christian Felix, Kapitan Jerry Corpuz of Brgy. 62-A Navotas North, Kapitan Hector Cristobal of Brgy. 62-B Navotas North, and Kagawad Herbert Ganitano of Brgy. 61 Cataban.
