Marcos: Sara wants to be defense secretary

Presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday night said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte wanted to be a defense secretary under his administration. “She wants to go to the Department of National Defense. I was also surprised when she told me, but it seems like it’s going to be a good idea,” Marcos Jr. said in an interview with One PH. The former senator described his running mate as “very intelligent” and said “her ideas will be of value” to the country’s national security issues. “In the sense of defense, she’s an outsider. I’m sure she has many new ideas,” he said. The president’s daughter earlier pushed to make military service mandatory for all 18-year-old Filipinos. She said she would use the Office of the Vice President to convince Congress to pass the needed legislation to make military training mandatory.
