HOW PASSION FOR FASHION INFORMS FOXES’ MUSIC

By Rito P. Asilo @ritoasilo

When the name of Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Foxes is mentioned, it isn’t just dance music that immediately comes to mind, but also fashion. In fact, even fashion and beauty magazine Elle describes the 32-year-old British recording artist as a “fashion maven.”

When we asked Foxes, who is set to release her third studio album “The Kick” on Feb. 11, in a recent interview how fashion influences her and informs her music, she shared, “I loved Cyndi Lauper and Kate Bush growing up ... and Prince as well. I loved how their fashion sense was part of their incredible public personalities.

“And fashion is such an amazing way to express yourself, both musically and visually. It allows you to develop your own persona and gives you some real confidence. So yeah, I do think they are linked.”

While the lovely singer, who’s behind the dance hit “Clarity” (with Zedd) and her latest singles “Sister Ray,” “Sky Love” and “Absolute,” began writing songs when she was only 14 years old, pursuing fashion was also a passion for Foxes because, as she revealed in our chat with her, she was drawn to it because of her mother’s business.

“My mom owns a vintage store,” she said. “So, as I was growing up, I’ve always been fascinated by dressing up and things like that. And it makes creating music even more fun!”
