Man shot dead in New York City subway attack

A 48-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest while on a New York City subway car on Sunday in the latest in a series of random attacks in the city’s transit system. The unidentified gunman fled when the train pulled into the next station, in Manhattan, and remained at large on Sunday night, police said. The gunman, described only as a heavy-set, “dark-skinned” man with a beard who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, gray sweat pants and white sneakers. The gunman and the victim were not acquainted and had no interaction prior to the shooting, police said.
