STORM ‘DOMENG’ LEAVES PH BUT SOUTHWEST MONSOON REMAINS

By Dempsey Reyes @dempseyreyesINQ

Tropical Storm “Domeng” left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Saturday without bringing direct heavy effects in the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Domeng, now with the international name Aere, was last spotted 955 kilometers northeast of extreme northern Luzon while the other weather disturbance also outside of PAR, Typhoon “Chaba”—formerly “Caloy” when it was inside the country— was estimated at 1,120 km west of extreme northern Luzon.

Domeng is packing 85 km per hour of maximum sustained winds with gustiness of up to 105 kph. It is moving north northwestward at 30 kph.

Pagasa weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said in the weather bureau’s 5 p.m. forecast that the two storms no longer affect the weather inside of PAR, with the gale warning being lifted, meaning fisherfolk could again proceed with their activities at sea.

However, Ordinario said the southwest monsoon, or locally called “habagat,” would continue to have effects in the western section of northern and central Luzon, particularly in Ilocos region and provinces of Zambales and Bataan.

These areas will have to brace for cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, Ordinario stressed.

As for Metro Manila and the rest of the country, fair weather is expected except for possible isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
