Republic Act No. 9356, also known as the “Charter of the city of Meycauayan City,” was approved. The act was ratified by the residents through a plebiscite on Dec. 10, 2006, officially converting the municipality to a component city. The town of Meycauayan was established in 1578, seven years later after Manila was founded. At present, the city has a total land area of 3,210 hectares, encompassing 26 barangays. According to the latest 2020 Census, it has a population of 225,673.
