NEW ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE AT BORACAY RESORT

In Hindu philosophy and mythology, the name Govinda is one of the many titles of the god Krishna, but this time in his capacity as the Master of the Senses, the one who ensures that mankind appreciates the sensory wonders that the world has to offer.

It is a fitting nickname for artist Je An “Govinda” Marquesto, who officially takes over for Eric Egualada as artist-in-residence at Crimson Resort and Spa, Boracay, this month.

Marquesto will be taking over for Egualada with regard to the art classes offered to guests staying at the resort, as well as locals who want to enhance their creative skills. Along with classes in watercolor and acrylic painting, he will also teach guests how to do thread art, a mixed-media discipline where nails and different colored threads and yarns are used to create stunning works of art.

The new artist-in-residence will also be a regular participant at Crimson’s signature “Art on a Plate” sensory experience dinners at the Mosaic Latin American Grill in November and December.

Considered one of the country’s most sought-after visual artists, Marquesto has done artistic commissions for leading corporations both here and overseas.

The artist has received numerous awards and citations, including a spot in Art+ Magazine’s Top Ten Picks for Manila Art back in 2017, as well as two awards from Art Revolution Taipei in 2019.

His work appears in numerous locations throughout the Philippines, including pieces on display at the Raffles Hotel where one particular masterpiece adorns the Zobel-Ayala boardroom, the Dean and Deluca Cafe in Makati and the Dusit Thani in Davao.
