MMDA workers allowed heat break for 2 months

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said it would implement a 30-minute “heatstroke break” for its field personnel starting April 1 to May 31. Under a memorandum circular signed by the MMDA acting Chair Romando Artes, the policy would be reimplemented to protect their staff from heat exhaustion, stroke and heat cramps. He said that they could also take an additional 15-minute break in case the heat index reaches 40 degrees Celsius and above. The heat break policy will apply to traffic enforcers and street sweepers with specific times designated for various work shifts specified in the memorandum.
