Chicken imports stopped over avian flu

The Department of Agriculture has temporarily barred the importation of domestic and wild birds and their by-products from Hungary and Japan following bird flu outbreaks in those countries. The order suspended the processing and evaluation of applications for the required sanitary and phytosanitary import clearances, but allowed shipments that were already processed before Nov. 1 for Hungary and Oct. 27 for Japan.
