New bird flu cases detected in Luzon, Mindanao

The Philippines has logged new active cases of bird flu, or highly pathogenic avian influenza, in some parts of Luzon and Mindanao but most of these incidents are under control, government data showed. “The new municipalities with recorded cases were Bacolor and Santo Tomas in Pampanga and the municipality of Lutayan in Sultan Kudarat,” the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) said in an update. As of writing, confirmed bird flu cases were recorded in the provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Bataan, Laguna, Camarines Sur, Sultan Kudarat, Benguet, Cotabato, South Cotabato, Davao del Sur, Maguindanao and Isabela. Of these provinces, Davao del Sur, Laguna and Camarines Sur are seen to recover soon. The BAI reported that 133,160 birds have died due to the virus while 286,934 others have been culled.
